After the events of September 11, 2001, the Federal Aviation Administration became the provider of aviation war risk insurance. Last year, the FAA selected IT WORKS! to automate the insurance management system. This business-to-business site manages policies for 75 American air carriers, including all the major airlines. The site calculates policy premiums, permits electronic signatures, tracks policy and payment status, and allows the carriers to manage their fleet schedules all through a secure, password-protected website.
The FAA Office of Policy and Plans is responsible for providing historical and forecast statistics on passenger demand and aviation activity at all U.S. airports. IT WORKS! assisted in the development of the forecast model, and subsequently wrote the software that analyzes the data and provides growth estimates. The model crunches through over one million data records to develop estimates for 10 to 20 years into the future. These estimates are used to plan airport expansion and state and local government infrastructure improvements. A public edition of the model is now available.
The ASPM system is a sophisticated online data management system that provides a host of data analysis tools for aviation activity, including a key metric—flight delays. The system retrieves information on the 40,000 flights that enter or depart U.S. territory each day. It also retrieves weather data from the National Weather Service to determine if weather has caused flight delays. The data are used to compute several efficiency and performance metrics for FAA facilities and personnel. The system is an integral part of a pay-for-performance system that the FAA is currently developing for select personnel such as airport managers and air traffic controllers.
IT WORKS! created a custom e-commerce system for Shimadzu Scientific, a global provider of scientific instrumentation. As a pioneer of high-technology products, it was natural for Shimadzu to want to be on the forefront of electronic business. Started in 1999, IT WORKS! continues to support the store, adding functionality as needed.
IT WORKS! developed and maintains an Akin Gump system that includes a comprehensive program of legal services available online. These services include access to a subscriber-only website that delivers round-the-clock search capabilities of special designation lists of individuals and organizations subject to U.S. legal sanctions. The system extracts data from a variety of sources, including Interpol, and consolidates them in one data system.
